On the 54th Earth Day earlier this week, we were reminded of the urgency and impact that the climate crisis has on all of us. In fact, we see the evidence of this crisis reflected everyday in our work. Therefore, we must identify and implement strategies to minimise greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining our capacity to deliver timely and principled assistance.

In this newsletter, IMPACT explores the steps it is taking to address the climate and environmental crises, through our programmes and in our operations. We have also committed to creating environmental-focused evidence, and this newsletter provides a roundup of our most recent climate research.

Ethiopia is faced with a humanitarian situation marked by droughts, floods, and conflict, yet grapples with a shortfall in funding for response efforts. Climate shocks continue to hit Kenya

Kenya is grappling with the aftermath of a prolonged drought and recent flooding linked to El Niño, resulting in loss of life, displacement of households, and extensive damage to agriculture. A critical concern is the reported disruption to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure. REACH’s Multi-Sectoral Needs Assessment (MSNA) revealed persistent living standard gaps across affected counties.

To highlight the severity of the situation, IMPACT, through its REACH initiative, published a brief including actionable recommendations for the humanitarian response.
