South Sudan | Escalating violence in Jonglei State to deepen humanitarian crisis

IMPACT, through its REACH initiative, has issued a new Alert highlighting the rapidly worsening humanitarian situation in Jonglei State, where violence is expected to escalate further in early 2026. Major offensives are anticipated in Akobo, Nyirol, and Uror counties following an evacuation directive issued on 25 January.

More than 230,000 people were displaced in January alone, over a quarter of the combined population of the affected counties. This surge in violence is affecting communities already facing severe food insecurity and an ongoing cholera outbreak. Without urgent action, malnutrition and excess mortality are likely to accelerate.
