GLOBAL | Keeping the light on in a time of crisis

As funding models shift and global attention fragments, the data systems that power principled and impactful aid are starting to falter. Visibility is slipping, disinformation is rising, and there is now a risk that hard-won progress in evidence-based action could be lost.

To ensure that those most in need are identified and prioritized for humanitarian assistance, evidence must be available, analyzed, and used. Principled and impactful aid depends on it.

Through its REACH initiative, IMPACT’s response is clear:

✅ Keep core data pipelines alive

✅ Analyse evidence to highlight urgent needs

✅ Support better collective decisions — and act independently when required

  • South Sudan |  Heightened risk of famine in Nasir and Ulang: Under a plausible worst-case scenario, in which violence and flooding escalate and combine to block communities’ access to food and lifesaving humanitarian services, the IPC warns there is a risk of famine in Nasir and Ulang between now and July 2025.

  • Ukraine |  Advancing accountability to frontline communities: How can humanitarian actors actually make sure the reported priorities and needs of affected communities are taken into consideration for an effective, inclusive response? Going over the three pillars of Accountability to Affected People (AAP), we present what works to ensure affected people on the Ukrainian frontline participate, receive information and provide feedback on humanitarian programmes.

About REACH

REACH is a leading humanitarian initiative that collects primary data and produces in-depth analysis to help aid actors make evidence-based decisions in support of crisis-affected people. With this in mind, our flagship research programmes aim to inform the prioritisation of aid according to levels of need - both crisis-level planning and targeted rapid response - as well as decisions around appropriate modalities of aid. Through our team of assessment, data, geospatial, and thematic specialists, we promote the design of people-centred research and set standards for collecting and analysing  rigorous, high quality data in complex environments
